Here are just a few of the fun & exciting things to do in the Barrie & surrounding area this October.

Pumpkin Festival & Haunted Adventure at Chappell Farms

617 Penetanguishene Road, Barrie

Time: 9AM - 5PM

Stop by Chappell farms between September 19th and October 31st where you can wander through a corn maze, enjoy a wagon ride, feed the farm animals, pick your own pumpkin or brave the haunted tent.

Weekends/holidays $11

Kids under 2 are free

Harvest Day at Barrie Farmer’s Market

Barrie City Hall, 70 Collier St

Time: 8AM-12noon

The entire family can come out on October 1st to enjoy great food and activities such as kid’s crafts with the McLaren Art Centre. You can even try your hand at guessing the weight of a very unique Hubbard squash. Vendors include local farmers, producers, chefs, & artisans. 

Brechin Scarecrow Festival

Brechin Community Ball Park, 3227 Ramara Rd 47, Brechin

Time: 10 AM - 4PM

Fun for the whole family on October 1 at the Brechin Scarecrow Festival. There will be a pumpkin patch, live music, local vendors, a parade of area dogs, crafts, and of course a scarecrow contest! 

Apple Harvest Festival

Take an adventure through the countryside and enjoy some free activities in the Blue Mountain area, Thornbury, and Clarksburg this Thanksgiving weekend (October 8 - 10). There will be live music, the apple pie trail, street performers, as well as hiking & biking trails. Check out the Apple Harvest Festival website for times & locations.

Last Blast Fall Steam Up 

Simcoe County Museum, 1151 Highway 26, Minesing 

Time: 10AM - 4PM

On October 15th the Simcoe County Museum will be displaying working historic construction equipment including tractors, trucks, and other equipment. You can take a guided tour on the people mover into the gravel pit & watch the equipment at work during live demonstrations such as building roads, rock crushing, & grading.

Run for the trails 

Scanlon Creek Conservation, 2450 9th Line, Bradford 

Join in the 3rd Annual Run for the Trails on October 22nd to raise money for an accessible trail at the conservation. There is a 7KM open run/walk, a 3KM kids run/walk, and a 1KM toddler run/walk, making this an event for the entire family. There will be a limit of 150 participants so register early. 

Run times & Registration Fees: 

7KM Open run/walk $40 starts at 10AM

3KM Kids run/walk $20 starts at 9:15AM

1KM Toddlers Romp $15 starts at 9:30AM 

Thanksgiving & Halloween Festivities at Drysdale’s Tree Farm

6635 Simcoe Rd 56

Time: 10AM - 4PM & 7PM-10PM

Bring the entire family out to Drysdale’s Tree Farm for fall festivities every weekend in October including face painting, pick your own pumpkin, wagon & train rides and a haunted house just to name a few! Friday & Saturday evening activities include a ‘Psycho Path’ wagon ride which is intended for an older audience (14+ recommended).

An Evening of Halloween

Enjoy an evening of Halloween at the Simcoe County Museum between October 25 and October 27. There will be fun activities & games for all ages including the Haunted Haven and Boo Barn.

Pumpkinferno at Haunted Harbour

Discovery Harbour, 93 Jury Dr, Penetanguishene

Time: 7PM - 10PM

Take in the carved pumpkin displays at Discovery Harbour each Thursday through Sunday in October. The artificial pumpkins are carved by young artists from the Eastern Ontario region. Other activities include mazes, crafts, and the terror zone!

Blazing Fall Adventure Special - Scenic Caves Nature Adventure

260/280 Scenic Caves Rd, Blue Mountains

Take in the colours of fall from a new perspective at the Scenic Caves Nature Adventures during their Blazing Fall Adventure Special. This includes treetop canopy walking and forest/escarpment ziplining during a 3-hour guided tour.
