Simcoe County has a lot to offer when it comes to winter activities. If the traditional activities like skiing and snowboarding don’t appeal to you, there are plenty of other activities that will get you outdoors enjoying the fresh air and scenery. Here is a list of 10 winter activities in Simcoe County.

Skiing & Snowboarding

People flock from all over to enjoy the ski hills that Simcoe County offers. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned skier/snowboarder, you will be sure to find a hill to satisfy your needs.

If you aren’t into skiing and snowboarding, try out tubing! You don’t need any expensive equipment or skills and the best part is that it is something you can do as a group. Whether you want to go down the hill solo or link up with others and ride down the hill as a group, it is sure to be a good time.

Snowshoeing is not only a great way to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature but it is also a great way to get moving. If getting into shape is part of your new year’s resolution, snowshoeing is a fun way to get active and something that the entire family can participate in.

Skating is another great winter activity whether you enjoy indoor arenas or outdoors arenas. Another fun way to enjoy skating is on outdoor skating trails. Check out the Discovery Harbour Skate trail, the Fern Resort skate trail or take a drive to Arrowhead Provincial Park to try out their skate trail!

Ice Fishing

If you enjoy fishing in the summer, try your hand a ice fishing during the winter! Whether you go on your own, with friends or take the family, it’s a great way to enjoy what Lake Simcoe has to offer in the winter season.

Explore the hundreds of kilometres of snowmobile trails that Simcoe County has to offer. Go for the day or make a weekend trip of exploring the scenic trails throughout Simcoe County and beyond.

Don’t have time to commit to a league but still enjoy the game of hockey? Enjoy a couple hours of Shinny Hockey at Centennial Park Community Ice Rink in Barrie.

Yes, you read that right, biking! This winter activity is actually called Fat Biking because of the extra large tires and wide rims on the bicycles which help on snowy trails and off-road terrain. If you love biking and want to extend the riding season, this is a great way to do so.

Cross Country Skiing

Another great way to enjoy the snow is cross country skiing. Enjoy beginner and elite trails through forests at one of the many places throughout Simcoe County that offer cross country skiing.

Snow Kiting

Try out Snow Kiting on Kempenfelt Bay! Snow Kiting is where you use a kite to glide along the ice or snow. This activity can be done with either skis or a snowboard. The best part is that the skills you learn during the winter will help you in the summer should you want to try Kite Boarding in the warmer months.
