Life can be very hectic and being dis-organized just adds to the chaos and stress. Here are 8 tips to help you get organized this year. 

Make a Schedule

Create a schedule where you can keep track of your time. Schedule in work, the gym, family-time and the time you need to spend cleaning/decluttering your home. This will help keep you on track with things that need to be done weekly, monthly or only once a year. 

Don’t Procrastinate

The longer you put something off, the more difficult it will be to get it done. If you are putting off a task such as de-cluttering because it seems overwhelming try starting small. Pick a room, a closet or a dresser as a place to start. Once you start making progress you will begin to build momentum to keep working away at the task and eventually accomplish your larger goal. 

Write Things Down

Write everything down and don’t rely on your memory. Life is busy and remembering everything can be difficult. Keep your to-do lists and reminders jotted down or saved in your phone so you can refer to them later.

Give Everything a Place

Create dedicated space for items in your home so that things don’t get misplaced. Knowing where things are allows you to locate them quickly when you need them. Everything having a place could also save you money as you don’t have to run out to purchase duplicates of items you have but cannot locate within your home. 

Clean Regularly

The best way to stay organized is to spend a little time regularly cleaning up and de-cluttering. It will help keep trouble areas from piling up and take only a few minutes a day. Make a habit of dealing with things like mail immediately if it only takes a few minutes instead of letting things pile up until it becomes a big chore.

Sell or Donate Unused Items

Once you have decided to part with items you no longer need or use move them out of the house. This will help show the progress you have made and will help build momentum to keep going. And just what do you do with all the items you no longer need or use? You could try selling them or simply donate them to charity. 

Money Management

Try using a money management app to help track where you are spending your money and set up reminders on your phone for when your bills are coming due. This will help you avoid late fees and will also show you where you are spending your money and where you can cut back if need be.

Beware of Bargains

Think before you purchase. Just because an item is on sale doesn’t mean that you need it. Purchasing items on sale can certainly save you money on the items you actually need but purchasing stuff just because it’s on sale could end up costing you more money and add clutter to your home.
